The effects of the inhibition of minor intron splicing in breast cancer cells

The goal of this project is to look at the U6atac component of the spliceosome and look at its activity in breast cancer cells. The activity will be studied by inhibiting the U6atac in cells and therefore inactivating it, and then look at the effect of the inhibition on the cell progression in breast cancer cells.

The hypothesis proposed in this project is that because cancer cells take control of splicing the mRNA for their advantage, the inhibition of U6atac would cause shut down of splicing in hundreds of genes that play a role in cancer progression, and therefore affecting cancer cells and how they behave to maintain the hallmarks of cancer. The expected results are that the inhibition of the U6atac would lead to slowing down of cancer progression.
