Success factors of business incubators in Qatar: From the perspective of entrepreneurs

This study attempts to identify the factors that affect the success rate of tenant companies in business incubators within Qatar’s economy. This study will provide an understanding and reasoning of what facilities and services are most useful to increase success rates for startups within an incubator. A survey was carried out with 18 participants from two local incubators and an interview was conducted with 3 participants from the survey. A weighted average method was used in the survey following certain conditions to differentiate a factor to success from non-factor of success. The study found that the following factors contributed to success: free co-working space, mentorship services, networking events and funding programs. Conversely, training sessions were not a factor of success. Whereas business support centers, workshops, prototyping facilities and R&D centers are an uncertain factor of success. The reasoning for each result is inferred from the interviews and explicated in the findings chapter. The implications of the study are that business incubators should increase spending on free co-working space, mentorship services, networking events and funding programs. Business incubators should also try something different, perhaps to diversify training sessions in order to avoid monotony and significantly increase their efficacy for entrepreneurs.
